Topic : Hepatitis and Substance Abuse

This workshop will focus on providing basic knowledge of what Hepatitis C Virus is, how to best integrate HCV information into your existing program, things to consider before testing, psychosocial support networking and the state of Chicago in treating HCV.


Topic : Risk Assessment of Substance Abuse/Mental Health Clients

Presenter : Paul Farina – LCPC, MISA II

Description :

This workshop will cover the theory and practice of crisis intervention, including the specific counselor skills needed to help stabilize clients in crisis. Particular focus will be given to properly assessing clients who are at potential risk of harm to themselves (suicidal) and/or others (homicidal), and appropriate interventions to ensure their safety. In addition, self-injury will be addressed as a risk behavior, and how it relates to, and differs from, suicidality.


Topic: Useful AODA Evidenced Based Practices for Substance Abuse Counselors

This workshop will examine a sampling of useful evidenced based practices related to AODA intake, assessment, treatment, and recovery management. The basic essentials of the most useful approaches will be explored and how they can be best implemented in everyday substance abuse counseling.

Topic : Strengthening Families through Family-Centered Practice

Description :

This interactive workshop will focus on the intricate process of working with families dealing with substance abuse as we detangle and make sense of effective family-centered practice. Specifically, participants will focus on the philosophy, principles, and strategies behind the relationship-based model used to strengthen families as we provide effective prevention and intervention. Relationships are the heart of the matter!

Parking is free at our lot on Morgan St. between Madison & Washington Blvd. ( Haymarket Center sign posted). Limited parking spaces available. Please come to lot between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on day of workshop. Attendant will be available at those times to allow entrance to lot. Note: Bike racks available at corner of Washington & Morgan.
