Health Education

Health Education is provided to all Haymarket Center clients, with particular focus on diseases that threaten chemically-dependent populations, sexually-transmitted disease and other communicable diseases such as tuberculosis and hepatitis.

The educational program is an extension of the HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention Program for Substance Abusers initiated at Haymarket Center in 1991, and funded since that time by the Federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

HIV antibody testing and pre- and post-test counseling is available to all clients, and case management is provided for clients who test positive for HIV and AIDS.

Founding of the Dr. James West Health Clinic honors the co-founder of Haymarket Center and underscores the premise on which he and Msgr. Ignatius McDermott based its treatment programs: that recovery includes the restoration of good physical and mental health.
