The Haymarket Institute is the educational arm of Haymarket Center. Its functions include continuing education for professionals in the substance abuse treatment and related fields and risk education for clients directed to Haymarket Center by the Circuit Courts of Cook County as DUI offenders for driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
Approximately 25 in-services are held annually at Haymarket Center or one of its satellite programs. In-services are approved by IAODAPCA and the Department of Professional Licensing for Social Workers for continuing education credits. In-services are available at no cost to other professionals in the addiction field. The most current trends and topics that affect the substance abuse treatment field are addressed in these in-services.
Professional workshops are presented approximately eight times a year. These workshops are open to professionals in the treatment field and any interested parties for a nominal fee. Workshops generally are held on Saturdays and are approved by IAODAPCA and the Department of Professional Licensing for Social Workers for continuing education credits.
The Summer Institute
Held annually since 1995, the Summer Institute is a three-day conference featuring nationally renowned and local speakers addressing the most current and relevant topics in the substance abuse treatment field. The conferences attract professionals who deal with those affected by addiction including the criminal justice, prevention, educational, medical, psychiatric, social work, and employee assistance arenas.
DUI Risk Education
The DUI Risk Education program is a series of four 2 1/2 hour lectures for individuals who have been apprehended for driving while under the influence and/or other alcohol/drug related offenses. The purpose is to provide orientation to offenders regarding the impact of alcohol and other drug use on individual behavior and driving skills and to allow offenders to further explore the personal ramifications of their own substance use and abuse. Classes must be attended in correct sequence.
