CADC Program - Frequently Asked Questions

The following is a list of frequently asked questions in no particular order. We have tried to cover all the basic questions here in the FAQ. However, if you require an answer to something that is not listed here please feel free to contact Mr. Ryan Breen at rbreen@hcenter.org for further assistance.

Q: What does the McDermott Learning Center CADC curriculum cover?
A: The McDermott Learning Center CADC curriculum covers 225 education hours needed to achieve CADC certification. The 225 hour includes special population topics: 15 hours of Addiction Treatment Services for Women and/or their Families and 15 hours of Addiction Treatment Services for Adolescents and/or their Families.

Q: Will I be a certified CADC counselor once I complete the course?
A: No. As with everything, CADC certification is a process and the 225 hour curriculum is just one requirement for CADC certification. However this curriculum will prepare you to take the CADC certification examination offered by Illinois Certification Board (ICB) that is required to work as a substance abuse/addiction counselor in the State of Illinois.

Q: What is the CADC Certification test pass rate for this curriculum?
A: 90 % of the class participants have passed their certification exam.

Q: What is the cost of the CADC curriculum?
A: The CADC program cost is $2000.00 which excludes a $250.00 CADC application and test fee, payable directly to the Illinois Certification Board. A $500.00 deposit is due at the time of registration, the balance may be paid during the course based on an agreed payment plan. 

Q: Can I get a refund if I decide not to take the full curriculum?
A: A full refund minus a $25.00 administration fee will be given up to the start date of the curriculum. A refund minus $150.00 will be given during the first 2 weeks of the start of the curriculum. After two weeks from the start date, no refund will be given.

Q: Does McDermott Learning Center offer their students internships?
A: Unpaid internships will be given to students which complete the CADC certification examination offered by IBC (Some restrictions do apply).

Q: Does McDermott Learning Center offer financial aid?
A: At this time McDermott Learning Center does not accept financial aid.

Q: Does the cost of the curriculum include books?
A: Yes. The cost of the curriculum includes all study materials needed. You are, however, required to have a flash drive for saving documents, power-point presentations, and other study materials.

Q: Is there parking available?
A: No. On-premise parking is not available. Many students utilize the SpotHero or ParkChicago app.

Q: Where will classes be held?
A: Classes will be held at 932 W Washington Blvd. Chicago, Illinois 60607.

Q: What education is required to attend the CADC curriculum?
A: All applicants must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) to attend the session. Proof will be required at registration.
