Advocacy

Haymarket Center conducts advocacy on issues directly related to policy and funding for substance use disorders and mental health prevention, treatment, and recovery. We advocate and engage in policy-making discussions at federal, state, county, city and local levels. Our goal is to help enact policies that will lead to increased access to care, improved efficiency and effectiveness of care, and high quality of services. Our advocacy is strictly non-partisan, and we do not advocate any specific revenue mechanism unless it is directly related to substance use disorders or mental health prevention, treatment, and recovery.

Haymarket Center is a member of the:

  • Illinois Behavioral Health Consortium
  • Illinois Association for Behavioral Health
  • Illinois Primary Health Care Association
  • Illinois Partners on Human Services
  • National Council on Behavioral Health

In addition, Haymarket participates in numerous planning and advocacy councils and groups.

Haymarket’s President and CEO, Dan Lustig, Psy.D., has for many years served on advisory boards at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a unit of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

At the local level, Haymarket belongs to or attends community groups including Randolph Fulton Market Association, City Club of Chicago and the district Police and Fire Departments.
